Harmattan

The harmattan is a period characterized by haziness, the weather is cool and dry, because of the absence of rainfall. It is also characterized by low visibility and paste of dust on every exposed surface.
Harmattan otherwise called winter elsewhere is a period where people stay indoors the most because of the cold and the windy dust, and people are compelled to wear thick sweaters or jacket just to wade off the intense cold.

Harmattan no doubt lives a lasting impression on people, as it causes the skin to dry which results to skin breakages, mostly the sole of the foot if left unkept, is the most affected as it begins to tear open giving the foot a pattern or what many would call zebra strips.

Visibility in this period could measure as low as 150-200m and most times flights are cancelled and motorists are cautioned to maintain a certain speed limit to avoid crashes.

"Measures to take during harmattan"

. Stay indoors to avoid getting exposed to the dry and dusty wind and If you must go out, make sure you're well covered and a face mask is not a bad idea most especially if you're asthmatic.
. Bath warm water to keep the skin warm and fresh.
. Rub Vaseline on your skin to prevent dryness.
. Always cover your hair to prevent hair breakage most importantly for women.
. Wear a protective footwear to avoid zebra strips.
. Reduce your intake of cold water. etc
Indeed all seasons are unique, they all have some things to desire and some others not soothing to our desires, what matters is coupling the undesired with a positive attitude to make it desirable. The harmattan is indeed here and knocking on our doors and whirling piles of dust on every surface. Hate it for what it is, the truth is that its here to stay until its time elapse. So, you adjust your life style a bit to make the period fun and memorable.
